Part-Time Jobs in Walnut Creek: Where to Look

Search for part-time jobs in Walnut Creek and a lot of what comes back is aggregator sites. Two local public employers post their part-time jobs on their own sites instead: the City of Walnut Creek and the Walnut Creek School District. Here is what each had open on October 2, 2026, what it paid, and how to apply.

The City of Walnut Creek: hourly jobs

  • Office Assistant: $17.00 to $22.00.
  • After School Sports Coach: $18.00 to $35.00.
  • Preschool Co-Teacher: $19.00 to $24.00.

  • Senior Preparator at the Bedford Gallery: $35.00 to $40.00.

The department also hires seasonal camp counselors, lifeguards and swim instructors, and gym and building attendants as the seasons come round. For after school coaching it asks people to call (925) 943-5899 x2689 to set up an interview. For help with an application, call Arts + Recreation customer service at (925) 295-1490 or email artsrec@walnut-creek.org.

Recreation class instructors work as independent contractors rather than employees, and apply by submitting a class proposal.

Walnut Creek School District

  • Noon Duty Supervisor: $18.95 an hour.
  • Campus Supervisor: two hours a day.
  • Substitute Child Nutrition worker: $20.74 to $24.01 an hour.
  • Substitute Custodian: $19.61 an hour.
  • A paraprofessional position at six hours a day, and an American Sign Language educational interpreter.

School hours suit parents and students, and substitute pools are an easy first step into a district. Our guide to getting a school job on EDJOIN explains the account, the attachments and the checks after an offer.

What part-time work pays

California’s minimum wage is $16.90 an hour in 2026, and every job above starts at or above it. Most of the city’s hourly ranges start a dollar or more higher.

Tips for landing one

  • Apply early. Seasonal camp and pool jobs are hired before the season starts.
  • Read the hours in each posting. A “2 hours per day” campus job and a six-hour paraprofessional job are very different weeks.
  • Have a short resume ready, even for hourly work. Government job sites ask for work history in detail, so keep dates and duties handy.
  • If you are just starting out, take our Where Are You in Your Job Search? quiz to see what to do next.
