Richmond, California
Richmond is West County’s industrial anchor — a working waterfront, a refinery, and the trades that keep both running.
The Chevron Richmond Refinery is the city’s largest single employer, with more than 1,200 employees and several hundred more contractors on site. That supports a whole tier of contract and trades work around it: pipefitting, welding, electrical, instrumentation, scaffolding, safety and turnaround crews.
The Port of Richmond keeps logistics, warehousing and transport hiring, in a city that has been doing this since the Kaiser Shipyards. Away from the industrial side, healthcare and public-sector employers hire steadily, and BART’s Richmond terminus plus the Amtrak station make it one of the easier East Bay cities to reach without a car.
