Free Job Search Help for Contra Costa Candidates

Most people start a job search the same way: open a job board, scroll, apply to a few things, and wait. It works sometimes. When it does not, the problem is rarely effort. It is usually aim, a resume that undersells you, or an interview that goes sideways.

ContraCostaJobs has free tools for each of those, and none of them cost anything. Here is what they are and when to use each one.

A plan for the whole search

The Career Road Map breaks a job search into eight phases, from figuring out what you want to your first 90 days in the new job. Each phase has a few concrete steps. You can read it without an account. With a free account you can tick steps off and your progress is saved.

If you are not sure where to start, start there.

Find out where you stand

The career assessments are thirteen short quizzes, two or three minutes each. They answer questions like whether you are underpaid, which kind of Contra Costa work fits you, whether you are ready for an interview, and how to spot a fake job posting. Each one ends with something you can do next.

You do not need an account or an email address to take them.

Help with your resume and interviews

A free account comes with an assistant that reviews your resume and tells you specific things to fix, and that runs practice interviews with you, one question at a time. It is automated, not a person, and it is free.

Create a free account to use it.

Hear about new jobs first

Set up a job alert with the kind of work you want and you will get an email when matching jobs are posted, on the schedule you choose.

Where to look beyond this board

The county, the cities, the school districts and the big local employers all post on their own sites. Our Online Job Resources page lists them in one place, along with the free public job centers that offer advisers and training.
