Brentwood, California
Brentwood grew out of East County farm country, and its biggest employers today are the schools that came with that growth.
The city’s 2025 financial report lists Brentwood Union School District (1,020 employees) and Liberty Union High School District (793) as its two largest employers, ahead of the City of Brentwood itself. Between them they hire teachers, aides, bus drivers, custodians, food service and office staff, and both post their openings on EDJOIN.
After the schools come retail and the building trades. Costco, Safeway, WinCo and Home Depot each employ well over a hundred people, and Precision Cabinets, Thorpe Design (fire sprinklers) and Rodda Electric make Brentwood a real option for construction and trades work. Brentwood has no BART station of its own. Antioch BART is the nearest, and Highway 4 is the main road west.
