Jobs at Contra Costa College, DVC and Los Medanos: How to Get Hired

The Contra Costa Community College District runs three colleges: Contra Costa College in San Pablo, Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill (with a second campus in San Ramon) and Los Medanos College in Pittsburg (with a center in Brentwood). Its district office is in Martinez. Together they hire office staff, custodians, library and lab technicians, financial aid and admissions staff, police, and part-time instructors.

Here is how to get one of those jobs, with examples from postings open on October 2, 2026.

Where the jobs are posted

The district posts on EDJOIN, the same site the county’s school districts use, and on its own careers page at 4cd.edu/career. Each posting links to the district’s application, and you apply there. On October 2 it had 16 openings on EDJOIN, including:

  • Admissions/Records Assistant I at Diablo Valley College: $47,460 to $57,828 a year.
  • Library Technician: $51,120 to $62,268.
  • Financial Aid Assistant I: $52,392 to $63,828.
  • Custodian, Lead, in Pittsburg: $53,700 to $65,424.
  • Program Assistant jobs in student services: $56,424 to $68,724.
  • Police Services Officer: $87,128 to $106,895.
  • Temporary part-time work, such as an Account Clerk at $20.18 an hour.

Staff jobs: what they ask for

Staff jobs, which colleges call “classified” jobs, mostly ask for experience, not a degree. The Admissions/Records Assistant I posting is typical:

  • Education: a high school diploma or GED.
  • Experience: one year of general clerical work, ideally with students or the public.
  • Skills: cash handling, accurate data entry, Microsoft Office, clear writing and good customer service.

Read the pay section closely. That posting explains that new hires start on one of the first three steps of the range, depending on experience, and move up a step each July 1 until they reach the top. So the top of the range is where you end up, not where you start.

Deadlines are firm. The admissions posting closed on a set date at 11:55 PM, so apply early rather than on the last night.

Teaching part time: the degree rule

Part-time instructors are called adjuncts. Their minimum qualifications are set statewide by the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges, and they usually mean a master’s degree in the subject. A Diablo Valley College biology adjunct posting, for example, asked for a master’s in any biological science, or a bachelor’s in biology plus a master’s in a related field.

Watch one detail: if the name of your degree on your transcript is not an exact match for the one in the posting, the district requires an equivalency form with your application, or your application is not considered.

Make your application count

  • Describe your experience in the posting’s own words, so whoever screens it can see you meet each minimum qualification.
  • List cash handling, data entry and the software you use. Those come up again and again in college office jobs.
  • Show that you work well with students from every background. The postings we read ask for it.
  • Practise for the interview with our Are You Interview Ready? quiz.
